Stolen vehicle backs into two London police cruisers

A man and woman are facing charges after a stolen vehicle backed into a pair of London police cruisers while allegedly trying to evade officers.

A person called police to report their vehicle had been stolen from the area of King and Richmond streets around 11:20 p.m. on Monday. The vehicle was found a short distance away near Maitland and Hill streets, but when police attempted to stop it the driver abruptly switched the vehicle into reverse and hit the cruisers.

Police believe this was done in an effort to get away from officers. However, the vehicle was blocked from leaving.

The woman driving the vehicle and a male passenger were arrested. Using video surveillance, police determined the man had stolen the vehicle.

No injuries were reported.

A 31-year-old London woman is charged with dangerous driving, failure to stop for police, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, driving while prohibited, and breach of probation. The woman has been remanded into custody and is set to reappear in court on Friday.

A 22-year-old man is charged with theft of a vehicle and impaired driving. He is scheduled to appear in court on May 5.
