The third suspect wanted in an armed robbery investigation that led to a standoff in southwest London earlier this week has surrendered to police.
Travis Simmonds, 36, of London turned himself in late Wednesday afternoon. He did so just hours after police publicly announced an arrest warrant against Simmonds for robbery with violence or threats. He was scheduled to appear in court in relation to the charge on Thursday.
Police had been investigating two armed robberies at an apartment on Wonderland Road South near Commissioners Road since March 3. The second of the two robberies happened on that date, while the first was on February 16. In both incidents, two men broke into the unit and demanded money from the tenant who was assaulted and threatened with a sawed-off shotgun.
Using video surveillance investigators identified a suspect they believe was involved in both robberies. Two other suspects were identified after police released photos to the public.
An arrest warrant issued for one of the three suspects, Joseph David Marghella, 48, brought police to a home at 48 Kinnear Crescent on Tuesday. Police ordered the people inside to come out, but some refused resulting in a lengthy standoff that lasted for several hours.
Marghella was eventually taken into custody. He is charged with robbery with violence or threats, armed robbery, use of firearm during commission of an indictable offence, unauthorized possession of a firearm, pointing a firearm, break enter and theft, and wearing a disguise with intent.
Six other people who were in the Kinnear home were arrested on outstanding warrants, unrelated to the robbery investigation.
The second suspect in the robberies, Charles Pinson, 33, was arrested Wednesday at a home in the area of Wharncliffe Road North and Western Road. He is charged with robbery with violence of threats, possession of a weapon, and use of a firearm during the commission of an indictable offence.
