What's open, closed and what to do in London this Easter

The Easter long weekend has arrived and with it a number of closures and fun family activities.

While the actual statutory holiday is Good Friday,  government workers and those within the school system also get Easter Monday off. That will keep federal, provincial, and municipal government offices and schools closed until Tuesday. Mail delivery will also resume on Tuesday. There will be no garbage, green bin or recycling collection on Friday.

Most grocery stores, banks, the LCBO, Beer Stores, the Labatt Retail Store downtown, Costco Wholesale, and malls including White Oaks Mall, Masonville Place, and Westmount Shopping Centre will close their doors Good Friday and Easter Sunday.

Shoppers Drug Mart locations in London at 1224 Commissioners Rd. W and in Sherwood Forest Mall at 1225 Wonderland Rd. N will be open Good Friday and Easter Monday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

All London Public Library branches will be closed Friday, Sunday, and Monday.

London Transit will be running on a Sunday schedule on Good Friday.

Movie theatres and restaurants throughout the city will be open all long weekend.

Parents looking to keep their little ones busy over the four-day school break will have no shortage of Easter events to take them to.

Storybook Gardens, currently closed for the season, will temporarily reopen Friday to Monday for an egg hunt. Kids of all ages can search the park for eggs to redeem for a treat or prize. Admission is $5.25 for children aged 17 and under. Adults get in for free. Pre-registration for the egg hunt is required.

The London Children's Museum will be open throughout the weekend with a variety of activities including the STEAM egg drop. Children can design their own contraption to protect an egg from a drop from the building's second storey.

The Museum is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The City of London is offering a variety of free recreation activities at community centres across the city. The offering includes swimming, public skating, Zumba, badminton, tennis, family open gym, arts and crafts, and cookie decorating. The full list can be found by clicking here.

The London Toy and Collectibles Expo will be held at Centennial Hall from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Friday. It will include 90 vendors selling a diverse selection of collectibles like comics, vinyl records, retro video games, action figures, both new and old sports cards, movie and television memorabilia. Cost is $5 per person, kids under 12 get in for free.

The Covent Garden Market will hold its Easter Market - its first official outdoor Farmers' Market of the season, on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. It will feature old favourites and new vendors in Rotary Square.

The German Canadian Club will be holding its annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Cost is $7.

Boler Mountain and The Factory will also be holding special Easter events over the weekend.

Easter goes to the hounds at the Plunkett Estate at 9282 Elviage Dr. where a National Service Dogs’ Easter egg hunt for dogs and their families will be held starting at 10 a.m. on Friday.

The London Lightning take on the Newfoundland Rogues at Budweiser Gardens on Monday at 7 p.m. Tickets can be purchased through the Budweiser Gardens Box Office.
