Humane Society's fundraising goal within reach following large donation

London's Humane Society is one huge step closer to moving into its new home thanks to a generous donation from some local businesses.

Don-Mor Automotive Group and Don-Mor CARSTAR have committed up to $200,000 to help complete the Humane Society's new facility.

Half of that money will be immediately available to the Humane Society London and Middlesex (HSLM).

The second $100,000 has been offered as a matching gift incentive, meaning that any community member or business' donation will be matched up to that amount, in an effort to complete the final funding requirements for the new Old Oak Animal Campus.

"We are ecstatic to receive this tremendous support from Don-Mor Auto Group. We truly are Almost Home and we are confident that our community will join Don-Mor and help us complete our new Old Oak Animal Campus,” said Lindsay McDermott, HSLM's capital campaign director.

This isn't the first time the Don-Mor team has stepped up to help animals in need. According to the Humane Society, their partnership began over a decade ago when Don-Mor began sponsoring adoptable animal ads in the newspaper.

"We care deeply about our community. Our city needs this new facility to help provide improved animal sheltering and programs in London and region," Don Morton the founder of Don-Mor Automotive Group said. "We are very proud to play a role in the final stretch of the project."

The gift will be recognized as the Don-Mor Auto Group and CARSTAR Community Engagement Centre in the new Old Oak Animal Campus, the Humane Society stated.

HSLM launched the Old Oak Animal Campus project in May 2022, and as of last month it was only $500,000 short of its goal.

The new facility is being built at 1414 Dundas Street in London. It replaces the old Clarke Road shelter and will offer space for up to 400 animals and amenities such as a dog park, walking trails, an onsite veterinary clinic, and a "cat cafe."

McDermott said the organization is deeply grateful for all of the help the community has given so far.

"Our community has built this new facility and it’s heartwarming to see a business that has been helping our community for over 40 years step forward in such a remarkable way," she said.
