Charity soccer tournament raises $70K for London's homelessness fund

A fund dedicated to helping London's homeless population has received a boost from the region's home builders.

The London Home Builders' Association (LHBA) announced on Thursday its second annual Constructors Cup charity soccer tournament raised $70,000 for the Health and Homelessness Fund for Change.

The tournament, held on May 31, saw 16 co-ed teams consisting of 12 to 15 players each compete at Tricar Field on Colonel Talbot Road. Proceeds of the one-day tournament, $17,500, were matched by The Tricar Group to bring it to $35,000. The money was then matched a second time by the anonymous donor family who originally spearheaded the Fund for Change with a $25 million commitment, bringing the total donation to $70,000.

"We are so grateful to the London Home Builders' Association, the generous sponsors and amazing participants of this year's Constructors Cup for choosing to support the Health and Homelessness Fund for Change," said Diane Silva, president and CEO of London Community Foundation, which is handling the fundraising effort for the Fund for Change. "By coming together as Londoners from all sectors and walks of life, we can ensure the most marginalized people in our community have a safe, secure, and affordable place to call home."

The Fund for Change was launched to support measures to combat homelessness in the city. In mid-April, it was announced $4.1 million had been raised through the fund.
