London ratifies new four-year deal with outside workers

London's roughly 700 full-time and temporary outside workers have ratified a new deal with the city.

CUPE Local 107, which represents city employees who handle snow plowing, arena operations, water distribution and sewage treatment, parks maintenance, and garbage collection, agreed to the new four-year collective agreement, it was announced on Wednesday.

"I’m pleased we have reached an agreement with the corporation that provides wage and benefit improvements for our employees, while striking a balance for London taxpayers,” said Jamie McBride, the president of CUPE Local 107. “This agreement reflects the vital role CUPE 107 employees play in delivering the important services the community relies on.”

The deal is retroactive to January 1 of this year and gives workers a 3.5 per cent wage increase for 2024. They will also see the following wage hikes throughout the remainder of the agreement:

2025: 3 per cent

2026: 3 per cent

2027: 2.7 per cent.

“This agreement reflects the hard work, respectful dialogue and commitment demonstrated by both sides of the bargaining table,” said City Manager Sandra Datars Bere. “The result is good for our employees, respects organizational needs, and supports our ability to offer the best municipal services to the community."
