Jr. B Playoff Hockey Wrap Up - March 5, 2017

The Leamington Flyers scored early and often on their way to a 4-2 win over the Sarnia Legionnaires Sunday night at Kinsmen Recreation Centre.

Leamington now has a commanding 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven first round GOJHL playoff series.

The Flyers continued to flex their offensive muscle by scoring two goals in the first period.  Cale Phibbs led things off, and Josh Pope-Ferguson added a goal just before the first intermission to make the score 2-0 Leamington.

Leamington added another pair of goals in the second period, with Jayden Fetter and Brett Vorshuk doing the honours to double the Flyers' lead to 4-0 after 40 minutes of play.

The Legionnaries tried to climb back into the game in the third period.  Derrick Johnson got Sarnia on the board with a power play goal.  This was followed by a goal from Brett Storr to cut the Vipers' lead to two.  Other than an unsuccessful penalty shot from Leamington's Scott Florence, no puck came close to crossing the goal line the rest of the game.

Connor Meyerink had 42 saves in goal for the Flyers while Sarnia goalie Jorgen Johnson had 23 saves.

The Flyers travel to Sarnia Tuesday night for Game 4.

Brett Primeau scored twice on the power play as the LaSalle Vipers beat the Strathroy Rockets 4-3 at the Vollmer Complex.

The Vipers can go for a sweep of their best-of-seven playoff series Tuesday night in Strathroy.

The Rockets drew first blood with just 39 seconds ticked away in the first period, as Steve Griggs picked up a goal.  Primeau evened things up for the Vipers on the power play for a 1-1 score after the opening frame.

The two teams exchanged a goal each in the middle period.  Strathroy took a 2-1 lead on a Spencer Allen goal, but LaSalle tied the game again on a score from Daniel Beaudoin.

Primeau briefly gave the Vipers the lead as the third period got underway with his second goal of the contest, but Strathroy pulled even once more on Griggs' second goal of the game.  It was Cale Allen who scored the game winner for the Vipers later in the period.

Eli Billing got the win in goal again for LaSalle with 39 saves out of 42 shots.  Zach Weir had 43 saves for Strathroy.
