Conservation Authorities Ask Citizens To Stay Away From Rivers After Massive Rainfall

Area waterways are overflowing after a month's worth of rain in just 15 hours across the region.

As a result, the Maitland Valley Conservation Authority, the Ausable-Bayfield Conservation Authority and the Grand River Conservation Authority are all asking citizens to stay away from watercourses for the next couple days until rivers and streams subside.

Some parts of Midwestern Ontario received as much as 110 millimeters of rain yesterday - nearly twice what's expected for the entire month of June.

They say river and streams in the watershed have risen quickly and will be flowing above typical seasonal levels into next week.
