Bruce Power Emergency Safety Teleconferences Today

Residents living near Bruce Power can join one of two toll-free teleconferences today to learn more about the Community Safety Guide being sent out in Bruce, Grey and Huron Counties. Bruce Power hopes the guide will enhance emergency preparedness practices, and educate residents on what to do in the unlikely event of a nuclear emergency. During the teleconferences, residents can learn more about the guide, which includes contact numbers, and escape plan, and what to pack in a 72 hour emergency survival kit. They can also learn about potassium iodide distribution. The teleconference will take place at 3pm and 7pm today. Call 1-800-291-9241 if you want to join in. Kincardine Emergency Management Coordinator Frank Merkt says they worked with local counties and health units to prepare the information, and to set up a "be Prepared website. For homes within a 50 kilometre radius, the guide will include a voucher so people can pick up potassium iodide tablets at a participating pharmacy, too keep at home just in case. Residents withing 10 km should already have their tablets. The tablets are also stored around the region to be easily accessed if ever required. More information about emergency preparedness in Grey, Bruce and Huron Counties can be found online at: www.bepreparedgreybrucehuron.com.
