U of T Group To Study Lake Huron Level Fluctuations

Huron County's Water Protection Steering Committee will help a team from the University of Toronto with a study on the water level fluctuations of Lake Huron.

Central Huron Mayor Jim Ginn, who also chairs the Water Protection Steering Committee, says the rise and fall of the water level is nothing new, but what has become a concern is the speed of the changes.

In January of 2013, the level was at a record low; but now in 2015 it's back above normal. That's a cycle that used to take much longer.

Ginn says the focus of the study is the shoreline, because it's particularly vulnerable to the erosion that results from extreme fluctuations in the water level.

The year-long study will start at the end of November.
