The MPP for Bruce Grey Owen Sound calls it inexcusable that the Liberal government is eight years behind schedule on plans to develop more long-term care beds in the province. Bill Walker says 21,000 seniors are on a waiting list for a long term care bed, and the province hasn't even drafted a schedule to show where they will develop those beds. The PC Critic for Long Term Care says the number of beds has increased by just 3 per cent under the Liberal's watch, and 15 per cent of seniors die while waiting for a bed. The province first announced in 2007 that it would redevelop 3,500 senior beds per year for ten years, which would have created 35,000 spaces. Walker says we need to ensure our seniors are being taken care of, to properly manage the needs of a rapidly aging population.
