Huron County OPP have identified more victims involved in an ongoing historical sexual assault investigation between the years of 1971 and 1995.
Martin Cretier, 71, of North Huron now faces over 20 additional charges including indecent assault, gross indecency, sexual assault, forcible confinement and sexual exploitation.
Police say the five victims were between the ages of 10 and 21 at the time.
Investigators say the accused met the victims through his work at Wingham and District Hospital, and as volunteer Scout Leader with the 1st Wingham Scout Troop.
He also used to volunteer as an auxiliary officer with the Wingham Police Service.
Wingham Police Chief Tim Poole confirms Cretier did act as a volunteer in the late 70s and early 80s. Poole adds that the auxiliary volunteers do not have police training and are not involved in regular policing activities. he says they usually assist with things like parades and other public events. Poole says Wingham police has not had auxiliary officers in over 17 years.
Cretier has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Wingham December 10 of this year.
Cretier was charged in September with four counts of indecent assault and four counts of gross indecency related to incidents alleged to have happened in Huron County during the 1970s.
Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to come forward, or call Crime Stoppers.
Cretier faces the following charges:
- Six counts of Indecent Assault, contrary to section 156 of the Criminal Code
- Indecent assault, contrary to section 149 (1) of the Criminal Code
- Eight counts of gross indecency, contrary to section 157 of the Criminal Code
- Two counts of sexual assault, contrary to section 271 of the Criminal Code
- One count of sexual assault, contrary to section 246.1 (1) of the Criminal Code
- Two counts of forcible confinement, contrary to section 247(2) of the Criminal Code
- One count of sexual exploitation, contrary to section 153 (1)(a) of the Criminal Code
