OMB Hearing Date Set For Meaford Downtown Proposal

Members of the Meaford chapter of the Architectural Conservancy of Ontario are waiting to see final plans for a five-storey commercial-retail building in downtown Meaford.

Chapter secretary John Kerr says the developer has assured them that he would send them the final plans for the building by the middle of January. Kerr’s organization wants to see how well the new building would blend in with other downtown buildings.

Lino Toncic wants to tear down several four-storey buildings and replace them with a five-storey structure.   The new building would house 97 condo units of various sizes, and shops on the ground floor.  The developer has promised it would have a 'heritage' facade.

Meaford council has approved the development.

Grey County, the final approval authority for the official plan amendment, also gave conditional approval to the application.

But the Meaford chapter of the Architectural Conservancy of Ontario filed an appeal in August with the Ontario Municipal Board.   The OMB has scheduled a hearing, beginning February 29th to consider the appeal against the approvals.
