International Silver Stick Begins Tomorrow in Forest

The West Grey Warriors PeeWee Rep team is off to Forest this weekend to compete in the International Silver Stick.

Jeff Scott is the proud parent of defensemen Darcy Scott. He says it's technically the first time the team has advanced to the international level since 1987. He explains the team is an amalgamated team from Durham and Ayton. Durham last won a regional silver stick 29 years ago. Ayton has never won.

Scott calls the team balanced saying they've got a great coaching staff.

"They've worked really hard since the beginning of the year to develop themselves as a consistent, competitive hockey team," he says.

The Warriors advanced to the International Silver Stick in Forest with a thrilling 4-3 overtime victory over Seaforth at the Kincardine Regional Silver Stick. Scott says the team battled back from a 3-1 deficit to win the game.

"It must have been a really good talk by the coaching staff (during the second intermission)," he says, "the kids came out energized and scored fairly early in the period to make it a one goal game."

West Grey's first game at the International Silver Stick in Forest is at 10:20 a.m. against the Millbrook Stars.

There are six other local teams competing at the tournament including the Kincardine Kinucks Atom B team; Blyth-Brussels Crusaders Atom C team; Listowel Cyclones PeeWee B; Seaforth Stars Bantam C team; Saugeen Shores Storm Midget B; and the South Bruce Blades Midget C team.
