There is now a competing proposal to bring natural gas to about 9,000 customers in southern Bruce County.
Union Gas has scheduled community information sessions to talk about the plan to install about 300 km of new pipeline to ship natural gas to Kincardine, Tiverton, Inverhuron, Chesley, Paisley, Ripley, Lucknow and Point Clark.
Huron Kinloss, Kincardine and Arran Elderslie have been working with Epcor to bring natural gas to their urban communities.
However, Union Gas believes their proposal is superior because it offers a significant reduction in energy cost over the long term while offering the lowest natural gas rates of any Ontario utility.
And Union Gas says their plan does not rely on a $230-million funding commitment from the province.
The company also promises to minimize the effects of the projects on the environment.
The first information session is at the Chesley Community Centre March 1, with another session set for March 2 at the Lucknow Recreation Centre. The final session is scheduled for March 3 at Kincardine's Davidson Centre. They all run from 5:30pm to 8:30pm.
