A proposed residential-commercial development in downtown Meaford is moving forward.
The man at the centre of the project has been asked to meet with an Ontario municipal board officer within the next ten days. Meaford's planning director and a representative from the local Architectural Conservancy of Ontario chapter will also be invited to that meeting.
Lino Toncic learned last week that the ACO had dropped its OMB appeal. The local group was concerned that the demolition of four buildings to make way for development would mean the the loss of part of Meaford’s architectural heritage.
But the ACO group and other parties reached an agreement earlier this month.
Toncic stated Tuesday that only after the meeting with the OMB can he begin selling the 95 condos that will make up the residential wing of the building.
Meaford council passed an official plan and zoning by-law amendment last year allowing the five-storey building to exceed the municipality’s four-storey height restriction.
Grey County’s planning department has also approved the development.
