Township Of Chatsworth Still Under State Of Emergency

The state of emergency in the Township of Chatsworth remains in effect until at least Thursday.

Flooding in Williamsford and the McCullough Lake area last weekend forced people from their homes. As many as 20 properties in Williamsford are damaged and about 40 around the lake.

Chatsworth mayor Bob Pringle says he made the call to have the state of emergency remain in effect, with advice from emergency services and the Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority.

"There's a little bit of an uneasy feeling [with] what this weather is bringing," says Pringle, even though water levels are receding. "There's a bit of a warning out for the next 48 hours, they're going to watch things closely."

Evacuees are being looked after by the Red Cross, Victims' Services, and Mennonite relief organizations are in the area.

Pringle says many homes are still without power and it can't be turned back on until deemed safe by certified electricians.

The Chatsworth emergency committee meets again Thursday.
