The keynote speaker at the OSUM conference in Goderich Thursday says experience is the best teacher when it comes to learning about storm chasing.
Greg Johnson says storms are actually very predictable, so once the speed and direction of a storm are determined, it's safe to approach the storm and get fairly close.
Johnson says storm chasing can be financially rewarding, but he gets more pleasure in passing his experiences on to the hundreds of students he talks to each year.
He says even more rewarding is being one of the first people on the scene of a disaster and providing help to people that need it.
Johnson says from his experience, he hasn't seen any link between climate change and an increase in violent storms.
He adds he doesn't question climate change, but believes it's too early to establish a link between climate change and frequency and severity of storms. In fact he suggests it many be possible that because of climate change, in 50 years there won't be any storms.
