A new portable recreation path at Kincardine's Station Beach allows people with mobility challenges to easily reach the water.
Bruce Power's Community Investment Program and the Kincardine Rotary Club helped bring the "Mobi-Mat Beach Access Mat" to the beach.
The roll out pathway across the sand offers water access to pedestrians with mobility issues, wheelchairs, and strollers.
The matt will be put in place in June and available through the Labour Day Weekend
Rotary Club President Jennifer White explains that “the natural beauty of our local beaches should be barrier free to all our citizens and visitors. It is our belief that this project will inspire other local businesses and stakeholders in Kincardine to consider how they can improve accessibility within the community and promote Kincardine as an accessible community”.
“At Bruce Power, we strongly believe in breaking down barriers for people with disabilities and we are proud to be involved in this initiative with our partners at the Municipality of Kincardine to make the beautiful Station Beach more accessible to all,” said James Scongack, Vice President, Corporate Affairs at Bruce Power.
Mayor Eadie commented that “This accessibility achievement highlights the Municipality of Kincardine’s commitment to enhanced accessibility of our public spaces.”
