Lucknow Honours Dave Farrish this Weekend

Lucknow native and NHL Stanley Cup winning coach Dave Farrish is being honoured this weekend.

July 9th is being dubbed Dave Farrish Day in the town and will include the renaming of the foyer in the Lucknow Arena and the multi-purpose room in the coach's honour.

Farrish was the assistant coach with the 2007 Stanley Cup winning Anaheim Ducks and brought the Cup to his home town that year.

Luke Cranston is one of the organizers of Saturday's event and came up with the idea of naming the lower level, the Dave Farrish Foyer.

"The upstairs part of the arena is named after Paul Henderson, Henderson Hall," he says. "I was helping out with a rec hockey tournament and I was just looking at and I thought, you know, we have another legend from Lucknow and we should probably do something for him too."

Cranston says since Henderson Hall has a nice ring to it, he suggested the Dave Farrish Foyer.

The public is welcome to attend the unveiling of the new foyer and multi-purpose room signs. It starts at 2:30 p.m. and Farrish will be there. Following that, Cranston says there will be a roast beef supper and silent auction at the Royal Canadian Legion in Lucknow.

Cranston says Farrish donated a number of items to the auction with the proceeds all going to Lucknow Minor Hockey.

"We've got autographed Morgan Reilly and Joffery Lupul authentic Leaf jerseys;  we have autographed Nathan MacKinnon, Colorado Avalanche Jersey authentic jerseys; we've got game-used Nathan MacKinnon and Jarome Iginla hockey sticks; and many, many, many other great items," Cranston says.

Tickets for the silent auction and supper are $25. For ticket and other information call 519-528-3002.
