Owen Sound Police Confirm Finding Body Of Andrew Fitzgerald

Police have confirmed that a body found in Owen Sound bay is that of missing Canadian Forces soldier Andrew Fitzgerald.

During a news conference Friday morning, Owen Sound police chief Bill Sornberger says there is no indication of foul play in the 19-year-old Nova Scotia native's death.

An autopsy will be performed on Saturday in London.

Fitzgerald had just graduated from the armed forces training course at Meaford. He'd been celebrating with his family and friends the night before his disappearance.

Owen Sound police, the OPP and the Canadian Armed forces had conducted a massive search that ended with tragic results. The body was found on Thursday by an underwater search team on the east side of Owen Sound bay about 2 km north of the city.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with Andrews loved ones as they deal with this tragic loss and our heartfelt condolences go out to his family and friends," Lieutenant Colonel Christian Lillington.
