Teachers at Central Huron Secondary School in Clinton have found a unique way to deal with students using their cell phones when they should be learning.
Students in Grades 9 to 11 are provided with iPads by the board, so they have the electronic devices they need to learn and don't need their cell phones.
At the beginning of this school year, students were asked to either leave their cell phones in their locker or put them in a receptacle in the classroom where could see them and know they were safe but weren't readily available to them.
Principal George McEwan admits there was some initial resistance to the idea but the students have come around and are concentrating more on learning.
It does not apply to Grade 12 students because they are not provided with iPads and need their own devices.
McEwan says as far as he knows Central Huron is the only school doing this.
