Perth County Visitors Association Closes

The Perth County Visitors Association has closed its doors for good.

Former General Manager Cathy Bieman says decisions over the past few months effectively put an end to the organization.

Perth County's Economic Development Department will look take on tourism issues.

The PCVA organization, programs, and all events closed down at the end of the year.

Bieman says the Association lead to some important accomplishments over the last 11 years, including the development of the Perth County Welcome Centre at the eastern edge of the county.

Bieman says the association also built awareness with a colourful and well-regarded tour and travel guide that was distributed to key areas in the province.

She says the PCVA Website offered a dynamic online event calendar and E-newsletter.

She points to the annual Forbidden Ride, the Wicked Ride, the Straw Sculpture Tour and the Stone House Tour as some of their successful events.

She adds the association provided effective promotional partnerships with local BIAs, chambers of commerce, non-profit organizations, local and regional charities.

"I am very proud of the work we accomplished and successful programs we can celebrate. Our full and part-time staff members learned about how to welcome visitors and build partnerships to our mutual benefit," says Bieman. "Over these 11 years I have been committed to bringing my very best efforts and energy to the PCVA members as well as the County in developing tourism for our communities and rural area."
