A pilot project for a shared Public Works program between North Huron and Morris-Turnberry will be terminated February 17.
CAO Sharon Chambers says a review of the project by North Huron found the current model would not achieve the efficiencies and cost savings that were hoped.
North Huron Reeve Neil Vincent explained that while they did not achieve the efficiencies they had hoped for, they did make progress toward developing a business model.
He says North Huron would be willing to share that learning with other municipalities who may be considering a similar venture. He also thanked Morris-Turnberry Mayor Paul Gowing for his leadership in recognizing that working together is necessary for the future of both municipalities.
During the review, Public Works Director Jeff Molenhuis submitted his resignation. However, he has now agreed to continue on with the role for North Huron.
"Following my resignation from the Shared Service Project, I was pleased to be offered a position at North Huron to continue building on the team’s achievements over the past few months. Our work in the coming year will focus on a business plan for Public Works to establish a framework for our maintenance activities, and to seek out operational efficiencies, explained Molenhuis," he says. "I will begin to develop a comprehensive program to manage our assets, with the goal of achieving long term sustainability."
