Cost Savings Didn't Add Up For Shared Services

Officials from the Municipality of Morris-Turnberry say a joint venture with North Huron didn't achieve the cost savings both parties wanted.

A Joint Public Works Department will cease on February 17.

The agreement was forged in hopes of seeing a more efficient and effective department, but according to a release it has not proven to be either.

The municipality has brought on Wray Wilson, the retired director of Public Works from Howick, to fill the void until someone his hired through a recruitment process.

"It is with great disappointment that we are stepping back on February 17 from our joint Public Works venture with North Huron," says Morris-Turnberry Mayor Paul Gowing. "We have been unable to find the efficiency and cost savings that we have been trying to achieve. We will be continuing to work collaboratively with our municipal neighbours to deliver the high level of service to our residents that they expect and deserve. Thank you to North Huron and all staff for their co-operation and commitment throughout the Shared Services project."

As for the building department, Morris-Turnberry, North Huron and Howick are still working together.
