Meaford is heading into "scarecrow mode," even though the annual Invasion and Family Festival is more than a month away.
Nearly three hundred bodies and faces have been assembled and are ready to be dressed in red and white in celebration of Canada’s 150th.
Two "dressing workshops" are scheduled for this week.
There's an evening workshop on Wednesday at 6:30pm and another one on Thursday at 9am. The workshops are at the Rotary Harbour Pavilion. A third workshop is planned for Wednesday, August 23 at 9am.
The finished scarecrows will invade the town’s streets, lampposts, storefronts, and public spaces during the first week of September and linger well into October.
The Scarecrow Invasion and Family Festival weekend kicks off with the parade on Friday, September 29 at 6pm.
The parade will start on Sykes St. and the family festival will follow at the harbour pavilion at 6:30pm with free activities for the whole family, an apple pie auction, entertainment, and award presentations.
The Municipality of Meaford and Meaford Public Library have added a scarecrow category to their annual Views of Meaford photography competition.
