Listowel and Stratford Advance; Waterloo Forces Game 7

Listowel 5 Guelph 1

Listowel scored four times in the first period including twice on the power play and went on to beat Guelph 5-1. The Cyclones win their GOJHL Midwestern Conference Quarter Final 4-0.

Tommy Hoogars got things started at 5:41 of the opening frame. Cullen Mercer made it 2-0 just over a minute later. Brady Anderson scored with the man advantage at 12:31 to make it 3-0 Cyclones and Keaton Wills power play goal at 14:48 would cap the period for the visitors.

It wasn't until midway through the third that Liam Buckley put the Hurricanes on the board. Chayse Herrfort scored with the man advantage to make it 5-1 Cyclones.

The Cyclones capitalized on all three power play opportunities while the Hurricanes were 0-4.

Max Wright made 28 saves for Listowel. Jet Greaves took the loss for the Hurricanes, allowing all five goals on 34 shots.

Stratford 7 Brantford 3

The Stratford Warriors topped Brantford 7-5 to advance to the second round of the Midwestern Conference playoffs.

Connor Gregga led the Warriors with a hat trick and an assist. Graham Brulotte struck twice and added a helper in the win.

Ruan Badenhorst made 19 saves for Stratford while Mat Woroniuk stopped 29 shots for the 99ers.

Other scorer for Stratford: Brent West, and Kameron Shearer.

The Warriors were 3-10 with the man advantage. Brantford went 1-5.

The Warriors will now play Elmira in the Midwestern Conference semifinals. That schedule has yet to be determined.

Waterloo 6 Kitchener 5

Sam Spaedt scored in overtime to help the Waterloo Siskins avoid elimination and force a decisive Game 7 with a 6-5 win over Kitchener.

Tyler Dam had a hat trick for the Siskins -- two of those goals were on the power play.

Kitchener was able to force extra time thanks to a successful penalty shot by Jordan White.

The Dutchmen took an early 2-0 lead in the game with goals by Steve Mariani and Blair Derynck just 20 second apart in the first.

Waterloo owned the second period with a trio of goals including two back-to-back power play goals by Dam and a short handed goal by Winston Cestnick.

Curtis Rawn extended the Siskins lead at 1:19 of the third but Jeff Schrattner and Adam Pys would score before the midway point to tie the game. Dam's third goal of the game put the Siskins ahead again for less than two minutes before White's fateful penalty shot.

Brett Miller made 40 saves in the win. Riley Daniels stopped 33 for the Dutchmen.

Game 7 is Sunday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. at the Waterloo Rec Complex.
