New CT Scanner Unveiled In Stratford

The Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance and the Stratford General Hospital Foundation hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony yesterday for their new CT Scanner.

Alliance C-E-O Andrew Williams says it took two weeks to install the new scanner and they've been depending on their partners in Goderich, Listowel, Woodstock, London and Kitchener to take CT patients as needed during that time. Williams added being without a scanner for two weeks as been an effective reminder of how it's become really imbedded in health care as one of the go-to tools for various patients needs, so it's important to have it. Williams adds the technology has changed significantly and the new scanner willensure that patients receive 40 to 70 per cent less radiation, it's faster and the image clarity is better.

Williams says with an organization like theirs, with the patient mix they have, it's essential for good patient care. Williams says the total cost of the new CT Scanner is 1.1 million dollars and so far they've raised 950-thousand dollars of that.

“We've been depending on our partners in Goderich, Listowel, Woodstock, London and Kitchener to take CT patients as needed. Incredible advances in technology over the last number of years. This scanner will ensure that patients receive 40 to 70 per cent less radiation ... a very significant consideration, it's faster, the image clarity is better.”

“So not having it for the last few weeks has been a good reminder of how it's become really imbedded in health care as one of the go-to tools for various patients needs, so it's important to have it and an organization like this one, with the patient mix that we have making sure we have this type of technology, MR, all the different imaging modalities, it's fundamentally important for good patient care.”
