Chair of United Way Perth-Huron Pleased With Progress

The outgoing Chair of the United Way Perth-Huron says he's appreciated the three years he's chaired the United Way and pleased with the success they've enjoyed.

Andrew Williams says they're just slightly below the goals they set but adds those goals were deliberately set high because the need in the community continues to grow and he believes they would not have achieved what they did had those goals not been set high.

Williams says they were able to announced and eight per cent increase this year over last year and they hit 3.8 million over the three years against a target of four million.

“It's so important to the fabric of any community and the three years have flown by and we've seen an increase in the support that the campaign has received. This year we're announcing an eight per cent increase over last year's total, which is, I think, testament to how people understand and appreciate why it's so important to support the United Way.”

This year's total of 1.3 million will allow them to increase their allocations to eight of their partner agencies and introduce a new program through the Centre for Employment and Learning around bringing newcomers into this region, so he's very happy with the overall result.

“We had a three-year goal of four million and we're gonna hit around 3.8. This year we're gonna raise a little more than 1.3 million and that's allowed us to increase our allocations to eight of our partner agencies and introduce a new program through the Centre for Employment and Learning around newcomers into this region, so it's been a big check mark all the way across.”
