The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority is expressing concern about the possibility of bluff erosion.
Water and Planning Manager Geoff Cade says the Lake Huron water level is still 12 to 15 inches below the all-time high in 1986, but it's high enough at this point that he is advising shoreline residents to be aware of the potential for severe erosion.
"We've had a couple of incidents of erosion within our jurisdiction so we felt that it would be appropriate just to remind everyone that it is a natural process and it's going to be aided by the high water levels and we've had some strong winds from some storms this spring," he says.
Cade says most erosion protection methods are long-term projects so he wants shoreline residents to pay attention to the bluffs.
If you see any significant changes or cracks, monitor the situation and possibly call the conservation authority or the municipality if there is a concern.
