Landsberg Brings Mental Health Message To Huron County

Michael Landsberg was part of a tour through Huron County Thursday, discussing his battle with depression and generalized anxiety disorder.

The host of Landsberg in the Morning on TSN Radio stopped at the Rec Centre in Exeter, before continuing on for two talks in Blyth -- one at Cowbell Brewery and the other at the Memorial Hall.

Landsberg's presentations gave people of all ages a chance to discuss their personal battles with mental illness.  The events are being used to promote the hashtag #sicknotweak.

In Exeter, Landsberg spoke to about 1,000 students ranging from Grades 7-12.

He opened the floor for questions, and there was a great response, with many of the students telling their own stories of battling mental illness, or their experiences of knowing someone with mental illness.

Proceeds from the events will fund mental health and wellness programs at five Huron County Secondary Schools.

Mental Health Awareness Week runs May 7 to 13.

Meanwhile, there's a special event Saturday afternoon at F.E. Madill Secondary School in Wingham.

Mental Health Matters is hosting a Wellness Day, and former athlete and Team Canada member Kendra Fisher is the guest speaker.

Admission is $10 with the event running from 1pm-5pm Saturday afternoon at F.E. Madill in Wingham.

All proceeds are going to Alexandra Marine and General Hospital in Goderich, which is the only hospital in Huron County with an inpatient mental health facility.
