Randy Pettapiece said three words after finding out the Progressive Conservatives won a majority.
"We did it!"
Pettapiece slammed a fist of excitement down on his podium in front of supporters at the Listowel Golf Club on election night, earning a third term as the MPP of Perth-Wellington.
After taking 40% and 39% of the vote in 2011 and 2014 respectively, Pettapiece took just over 50% of the vote this election, part of the first Progressive Conservative majority since 1999.
Pettapiece says he is working for everybody, "not just the people that voted for you". He says "The municipalities tell us what they need, and we try to work with them".
The three-time incumbent MPP looks forward to reintroducing the Rea & Walter Act, which he says will fill a gap in fire safety. The act is named for two North Perth Fire Service members, Ken Rea and Ray Walter, who died battling a fire in 2011 when the roof of the Listowel Dollar Stop collapsed.
Pettapiece says there is a much better chance of getting this bill through the house now that the Progressive Conservatives have formed government.
Pettapiece says this victory was not possible without a strong team, and took time to thank both his campaign staff as well as his family. He also feels a majority government will help tackle issues like a rising cost of living in Perth-Wellington and soaring hydro costs.
