It was a pretty eventful Saturday night in Owen Sound as police were called to deal with several incidents, within a span of eight hours.
According to Owen Sound police acting Sergeant Mike Holovaci, the first happened around 7 p.m. Saturday. Officers were called to a bar on 2nd Ave. E. on a report of two women creating a disturbance, shouting and throwing things at staff and other patrons, and refusing to leave when told to do so by management. The investigation revealed that the women had become upset after being cut off at the bar. The two 47-year-old women, one from Owen Sound, were charged with creating a disturbance and have a December 6 court date.
About three hours later, around 10 p.m., police were called to a business on 9th St. E. on a report of a fight. When they arrived, a man was lying on the pavement with serious facial injuries. He was taken by ambulance to a local hospital. The suspect, a 36-year-old Brampton man, had apparently been refused service in the bar and subsequently assaulted the victim. The man fled the scene but was apprehended a few blocks away. He is charged with assault causing bodily harm and breach of probation. He was held for a remand hearing.
Shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday, two Owen Sound males were arrested in the area of 8th St. E. and 3rd Ave. E. Holovaci said the pair had been cautioned by officers for loitering around a bar at that location and causing a disturbance by shouting, swearing and challenging people to fight. The disturbance resumed in a nearby parking lot. The men, aged 19 and 20, were charged with creating a disturbance and will appear in court December 6.
Finally, police happened to be in the area of another bar at 2nd Ave. E. around 2:30 a.m. when a fight began inside and spilled out onto the street. Holovaci said the officers were able to quell the situation and no criminal charges were laid. The manager of the establishment then asked the officers for help in clearing the bar of the other patrons, which was done without incident.
All of the charges laid have yet to be proven in court.
