Administrators in Wellington North are pleased with the results of the mail-in vote used for the October municipal election.
Clerk Karren Wallace told council that she would recommend using the mail-in ballot again for the next election.
There was a 43 per cent voter turnout this year, compared to 2014 when there was a 38 per cent turnout using a traditional paper ballot. Wallace said the threat of a postal strike caused a bit of havoc during the lead-up to the election.
Meanwhile, Minto plans to make improvements in the voter list for the next municipal election.
Councillor Jean Anderson said there were numerous issues with the voter list in the October election. The list is compiled by the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation, which tracks property owners but not renters.
Deputy Clerk Annilene McRobb told council there are plans to go door-to-door prior to the next election, focusing particularly on renters. But she added the onus is still on voters to make sure their name is on the list.
