Local students heartbroken after high school cuts music program

Students at Wellington Heights Secondary School in Mount Forest were very disappointed last week after learning the school plans to drop the music program when longtime instructor Kim Stewart retires this year.

Student Graham Greenhill said it was devastating news for the student body.

"It's just heartbreaking to every single student and person at the school. The band goes everywhere. The band goes to places like elementary schools and inspires kids to become musicians themselves," he said.

There are currently Change.org petitions being shared by students on Facebook and social media to try and gather local support for the music program. Graham said the students won't go down without a fight.

"It's heartbreaking to find out our school's going to lose one of the best parts about it. But we will not go quietly, we will fight this to the very end," he said.
