Bruce Power celebrates major milestone for Major Component Replacement

Bruce Power is ramping up for the Major Component Replacement Project which begins in Unit 6 in January.

Bruce Power supplier partner Brotech Precision CNC has shipped its first Shield Plug Assembly as part of the $20.5 million contract it signed with Bruce Power in 2018

Brotech will manufacture 1,028 assemblies per unit, for a total of 6,168 over the life of the six-unit MCR.

Brotech has also invested in a facility in Owen Sound to better serve Bruce Power in the coming years

Mike Rencheck, Bruce Power’s President and CEO, said the first shipment of Shield Plug Assemblies is a major milestone for Bruce Power and for Brotech.

Jerome Horowitz, Vice President, Brotech Precision CNC said, “We are excited to see the first Shield Plug Assembly shipped to Bruce Power as we quickly approach the start of the Major Component Replacement Project. Our employees take great pride in the quality of their work, and we look forward to helping Bruce Power achieve its goals of being on time and on budget with this project, which is so important to the people of Ontario.”

“The economic development opportunities that are created in Ontario by extending the life of Bruce Power through 2064, are significant,” Rencheck said. “Every day we get closer to the start of the Unit 6 Major Component Replacement, and it is important to celebrate with our supplier partners as they realize the potential of good-paying jobs and Ontario-made products. We all enjoy success when we work together to build a carbon dioxide-free, low-cost energy future through nuclear power, and I congratulate Brotech on this achievement, and wish them continued success as they expand into Owen Sound and help power Ontario.”
