Saugeen First Nation man charged with numerous offences

A man from Saugeen First Nation remains in custody following an assault and subsequent altercation with OPP officers.

Police were dispatched to a residence at Cameron Drive, Saugeen First Nation Wednesday afternoon to speak with two people who had been assaulted. Both suffered minor injuries.

Officers learned the suspect was inside a different residence on Cameron Drive. When police arrived, the man refused to leave.

Shortly before 7 p.m. Wednesday, the OPP entered the residence on the strength of a Feeney Warrant and attempted to arrest the man.    Police said he actively resisted, and a conducted energy weapon was deployed to subdue the man.

A 36-year-old man from Saugeen First Nation is charged with assault, assault with a weapon, resisting arrest, and four counts of breaching a recognizance. He remains in custody. His next court date in Walkerton is June 24.
