One of the co-founders of the Celtic Roots Festival in Goderich says when they started 27 years ago, they had no idea the Festival would grow to what it has become today.
Warren Robinson says he and his wife, Eleanor, were hoping to just get a little local festival off the ground and never imagined they'd one day be attracting international Celtic super stars.
“I think, initially, we just hoped to get something off the ground, a little local festival, never had the idea of getting these international super stars in the Celtic World. But after we'd been going for five or six years and had build momentum and started to get a real reputation. Believe it or not, we're better known in Europe than we are here.”
He says he's been told by one of the Scottish super stars that every Scottish Celtic musician knows about the Goderich festival and wants to come and play in Goderich and similar things have been said about Irish musicians.
Robinson says the weather has definitely been on their side this year and that and a great lineup of talent has translated into one of the best Friday nights in years and it looked like Saturday would be the same.
“This is, I think, our best Friday night in the last several years and looking at what's already filled in Saturday night, there's not much real estate left, so really really good and we're up 25 per cent at the Celtic College, so it's a banner year.”
