Close to 100 people packed a church in Port Albert Saturday to hear more about the municipality's plan to deal with a potential influx of people.
Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh Mayor Glen McNeil pointed out Saturday's meeting was a first step in the process to get public input into how the municipality should approach a possible population increase, based on inquiries from realtors and an increase in building permit applications.
"This council is a firm believer to engage early and to engage often," he said. "When we get feedback then we can base our decisions involving that feedback and that's what we wanna do for the benefit of everyone."
McNeil added have no idea how big the demand will be or how extensive the development might be. He said that will depend on the individuals that choose to live in Port Albert.
"We want to put the foundation in place that we can proceed in the correct manner and drainage is very, very important because if there's a water problem, it's everyone's problem," he said.
McNeil said they are working on a way that will allow residents to use social media to direct questions to the municipality. He said they're still gathering information, which will be analyzed and brought back to A-C-W council.
