The South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is continuing to receive reports of scams.
In the past few weeks, scammers have been posing as an OPP officer and asking for money. However, the OPP does not solicit.
In other scenarios, victims are asked to confirm the last three digits of their social insurance number or to pay for a Global Grant Fund using gift cards.
Scammers are always coming up with new plan, and often use the name of a legitimate company.
Always be cautious with unsolicited email, phone calls, letters, even visitors at your door. Unsolicited means that you didn't ask for it. Always be certain who you are dealing with before you ever consider sending money or sharing personal information.
The Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre is reporting $43 million dollars lost to fraud to date.
There is no magic to prevent fraud. If it seems too good to be true it likely is and you can't win a lottery or contest that you didn't enter in the first place. You work hard for your money, so work just as hard to protect it. Don't pay the con artist.
