Hanover Raceway announces new general manager

Steve Fitzsimmons is taking over as the new general manager of Hanover Raceway.

The Hanover Bentinck and Brant Agricultural Society announced the hiring of Fitzsimmons this afternoon, citing his sales and marketing background in both the automotive and publishing sectors.

The 46-year-old also does play-by-play on Rogers Television for the OHL's Guelph Storm and is serving his second term as a councillor for the Town of Hanover.

As part of his council duties, Fitzsimmons sat on the Hanover Raceway Board for five years and was the Town's representative on the Hanover, Bentinck and Brant Agricultural Society Board.

Fitzsimmons' father raced horses for many years at a number of Ontario race tracks including Hanover Raceway, according to a release sent out this afternoon.

Fitzsimmons begins his new position on Tuesday, March 3.

"The Hanover Bentinck and Brant Agricultural Society is excited that Steve has accepted this position with us. We are confident that the Society, the Hanover Raceway, and its stakeholders will benefit from the passion and enthusiasm Steve is bringing to this job. We very much look forward to working with Steve going forward," said Adam Chalmers, President of the Agricultural Society.

"This is a very unique opportunity for me. My family raced horses at Hanover Raceway when I was a kid and some of my favourite childhood memories are of grooming my dad's horses at the track. I understand very personally the proud tradition and legacy of what Hanover Raceway means to people, both in the industry and to fans," said Fitzsimmons.
