The Lake Huron Centre for Coastal Conservation is launching a new program this year, the Coastal Conservation Youth Corp.
“We got a very generous sponsorship from the Ontario Trillium Foundation of over $200,000 to put this program on over two years," said Stewardship Coordinator Hannah Cann.
Funding from Enbridge and the Libro Credit Union will help them extend the program for the third year.
Cann says the program will bring in 40 young people for a week to participate in coastal conservation projects.
“So that could be dune restoration or removing invasive species, building boardwalks or rain gardens. It's a three-year program, so we're hoping to have 120 youth in high school participate in the program over the three years.”
Cann says COVID-19 has forced them to postpone the program for now, but they're still hoping to launch it this year.
