Perth Wellington MPP welcomes local hospital funding

Hospitals across Perth-Wellington will benefit from over $3.4 million in new funding as part of the provincial government’s commitment to small and medium-sized hospitals.

Perth-Wellington MPP Randy Pettapiece said it is an investment in the dedicated health care professionals working hard in every corner of who are providing excellent care despite challenging circumstances.

“We rely on our local hospitals,” said Perth-Wellington MPP Randy Pettapiece. “In this time of COVID-19, we need them even more. That is why I am so pleased this provincial government is supporting them."

Stratford General Hospital will see a 3.5 percent increase in funding. Listowel Memorial, St. Marys and North Wellington Health Care Corporation will all see increases.

“But the new funds are not just numbers on a balance sheet,” Pettapiece added. “It is an investment in the dedicated health care professionals working so hard in every corner of our riding. I want to thank every one of them. They are providing excellent care despite really challenging circumstances.”

Pettapiece announced funding for hospitals in Perth-Wellington:

Hospital New funding for 2020-21 Increase Stratford General Hospital $2,603,300 3.5% Listowel Memorial Hospital $306,400 1.9% St. Marys Memorial Hospital $163,400 3.5% North Wellington Health Care Corporation $343,400 2.0% Total new funding for Perth-Wellington $3,416,500  

On March 25, the provincial government released Ontario’s Action Plan: Responding to COVID-19.

The action plan included $935 million more in new investments for Ontario hospitals this year, including $594 million to help hospitals meet current and future demands.

To help respond to the pandemic, the government is also investing $341 million in hospitals to ensure they are ready to care for COVID-19 patients.

Small and medium-sized hospitals will see an added benefit: annualized funding.

“Our local hospitals have unique needs,” Pettapiece added. “Rural and small communities have a government that recognizes that.”
