South Huron Mayor, George Finch has announced his intention to run for Warden of Huron County.
Finch says there are a number of common issues among all nine of the municipalities and one that is a top priority for him is the homeless issue.
He said, “I think people have really started to realize that this is not a big city problem anymore. That we're impacted by it and we need to get on top of it, get ahead of it before we have to get ahead of it. So we should have all hands on deck to make sure that we're all working collectively together to make sure that we can find a solution for it.”
Finch says another one of his priorities is internet connectivity. He says COVID-19 has changed our lives in a number of ways and one the things it's done is demonstrate the importance of being connected.
“If anything COVID has taught us, it's a wake up call that we need good connectivity. It's as simple as that. Agriculture's our backbone in the county, so we need to make sure those families have the internet they need to be able to use it for the purpose of farming and also for education. So it's a number one priority,” added Finch.
Finch is running against Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh Mayor Glen McNeil. Both Finch and McNeil are in their first term as county councillors.
The Warden of Huron County will be elected in December.
