Huron County OPP officers are investigating after two firearms were stolen from unattended pickup truck.
A man hunting deer about 5:00 last night on Hawkins Road in the Maitland Conservation Area heard his truck alarm sound off. Upon checking, he found a smashed window, and two firearms missing from the vehicle.
The stolen firearms are described as: a Traditions muzzleloader with a camouflage stock, a stainless steel barrel and an attached 3X9 scope. This gun was stored in a camouflage fabric case. The other stolen firearm is a Mossberg pump action rifle with a wooden stock and a black barrel. This gun was stored in a black fabric case.

An OPP media release outlined the rules for transporting guns.
Transporting Firearms Safely: -Non-restricted firearms must be unloaded during transportation. -Restricted and prohibited firearms must be unloaded and a secure locking device attached to the firearms and lock the firearms in a sturdy, non-transparent container and remove the bolts or bolt carriers from any automatic firearms (if removable).
Leaving any class of firearm in an unattended vehicle -Lock non-restricted firearms and locked containers carrying restricted or prohibited firearms in the trunk or in a similar lockable compartment. If the vehicle does not have a trunk or lockable compartment, put firearms and firearms containers out of sight inside the vehicle and lock the vehicle.
