Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP Bill Walker has announced some new provincial funding to aid local retirement homes in his riding.
In a release on March 17th, Walker detailed how the provincial government is providing $417,920.10 in funding to assist with COVID-19 costs. The province is investing just over 30 million dollars across the retirement home sector to help cover COVID-19 related costs such as hiring, training and testing additional staff, and sanitizing residences and purchasing supplies to prevent and contain the spread of infection. The release from Walker says this funding is in addition to the 30.9 million dollars that was given to retirement homes earlier in the pandemic.
In total, 14 different retirement homes across Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound will split the money announced in Walker's release.
“I’m very happy to see this funding for our retirement homes in Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound. They have done amazing work during this pandemic to keep their residents and staff safe,” said Walker. “This funding will be used for PPE, cleaning supplies and to help our local facilities with their continuing Infection and Control measures. A special Thank You is extended to all the front-line workers who truly have been champions during this unprecedented challenge.”
