New long-term care beds have been approved for a St. Marys long-term care home.
In a release on March 18th, Perth-Wellington MPP Randy Pettapiece announced that a plan from Kingsway Lodge to build a brand new long-term care facility in St. Marys was approved by the province. The new home will feature 62 upgraded beds along with 66 brand new ones for a total of 128 beds for the area. The release states that Kingsway Lodge is one of 80 new long-term care projects that have been approved by the province. Pettapiece spoke last September in the Ontario legislature on the need for more long-term care beds in his riding.
In total, the release states that the 80 new long-term care projects around Ontario will represent 7,510 new and 4,197 upgraded long-term care spaces.
"This is exciting news for St. Marys and our entire area,” says Pettapiece. “Demand for long-term care beds is high and will be even higher in the future. This new facility will help us meet the demand. It will mean more beds, close to home, for those who need them."
“Our loved ones in long-term care deserve a comfortable, modern place to live, near family and friends, with the support they need when they need it,” says Dr. Merrilee Fullerton, Minister of Long-Term Care. “These new and upgraded spaces, built to modern design standards, will help prevent and contain the transmission of infectious diseases and ensure residents have access to the care they need in a safe and secure environment.”
