The Municipality of Kincardine and the Kincardine Trails Association have officially opened the Kincardine to Inverhuron Provincial Park (KIPP) Trail.
Kincardine Trail Association Chair Brad Kirkconnell says the committee has been working on this project for ten years, and is thrilled to see it finally come to fruition.
“A lot of work went into this, a lot of frustration, a lot of delays, but that’s all behind us now. Now it’s a matter of watching people get out and enjoying this and moving onto our next project. We do this for the benefit of the community, that’s what it’s all about,” said Kirkconnell.
Kirkconnell says they try to avoid cutting down trees as much as possible when creating these trails.
“We try not to cut down trees at all, unless it’s absolutely necessary, but we try to avoid that. We have been planting trees the last few years too so I think we’re actually on the plus side of that,” he said.
He says their next project involves a five kilometre cycling trail within the municipality of Kincardine.
“Four kilometres of it is ready to use. We just need to fix up one kilometre, which takes a bit of work because there is slope work involved. We’re working with the municipality on a plan to do that and hopefully we’ll get working on it next year,” he added.
The KIPP trail is about 12 kilometres in length and is the first trail in the municipality to connect all three wards.
