Former MPP makes donation to local hospice

The Grey Bruce Hospice Chapman House is receiving a generous donation from a former local politician.

Former Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP Bill Walker will be making a cheque presentation to the hospice for more than $40,000. When Walker retired from politics earlier this year, in lieu of gifts, he asked that his friends and colleagues donate to the hospice. Walker's donation will be going toward the Grey Bruce Hospice's annual year-end campaign, in celebration of its "Home at Chapman House" initiative.

For more information on the campaign and how to donate, visit the Grey Bruce Hospice website at http://www.GreyBruceHospice.com or call 519-370-7239.

“Bill has been a dedicated champion of Grey Bruce Hospice since day one," shared Janet Fairbridge, Executive Director of Grey Bruce Hospice. “He recognized early on that the need for free access to hospice palliative care is important for all citizens of Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound, and he was a tireless advocate on our behalf. While no longer at Queen’s Park, he continues to provide his generous support and we are very grateful.”

“It is truly an honour to support Grey Bruce Hospice, and I would like to thank those family and friends who donated, and a special acknowledgement to the nuclear industry who stepped up to sponsor my retirement dinner very generously," added Walker. "Chapman House is a wonderful organization that provides care and compassion in a family’s greatest time of need, and it is my pleasure to have helped in a small way. As we move toward the holiday season and year-end, I would like to encourage anyone who is able to reflect on how fortunate we are to have such an incredible facility, staff, and volunteers in our community, and to give as they are able, now and in future.”
