Cheese recalled due to possible Listeria contamination

Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health is warning that Igor brand Gorgonzola Dolce has been recalled due to possible Listeria contamination.

The product was available through various retailers in Ontario, British Columbia, and Quebec. Shoppers could have picked up the cheese in packages that may not bear the same brand, product name or best before date. If you are concerned about your purchase, contact your retailer. The cheese was also served by a clerk over the counter in some locations.

Public Health warned that anyone who became sick from consuming a recalled product to call their doctor. Throw out any recalled products or bring it back to the point of purchase.

Food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick.

"Symptoms can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness. Pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk. Although infected pregnant women may experience only mild, flu-like symptoms, the infection can lead to premature delivery, infection of the newborn or even stillbirth. In severe cases of illness, people may die," concluded a notice from public health.
